When people experience a fall from height at work, they often make accident claims in Manchester. After all, these incidents can be hugely distressing and they can cause serious injuries.
One man who knows only too well about the potentially devastating impact of falls like this is William Phillips. In August last year, he was helping to replace a canopy between two temporary buildings when he tumbled three metres between timber joists to the concrete floor below.
As a result of the fall, he suffered a fractured back, breastbone, ribs and right wrist and he has not yet been able to return to work.
During a recent hearing at Shrewsbury Magistrates’ Court, his employer pleaded guilty to breaching health and safety laws and was hit with a fine of £6,500. It was also ordered to pay costs exceeding £3,000.
Commenting on the case, Health and Safety Executive inspector Guy Dale said: “This incident was entirely preventable.”
He went on to state: “Work at height is a high risk activity and needs to be properly planned. Had that happened, a man would not have been left with debilitating injuries.”
By contacting personal injury solicitors in Manchester, people who suffer falls from height may be able to secure compensation. While this cannot undo their suffering, it might help them to cover their lost earnings and any medical bills they have incurred.
Also, it can give them a sense of empowerment. After all, they can make those responsible for their suffering pay for their actions.
